"Where am I?" I yelled, echoes bouncing from wall to slimy wall. I called again, "Where am I? Hello?" Knowing full well no one would answer, I curled my knees up to my chin and sat. It was dim in the cave, though not completely dark, as though light were coming from somewhere. Where it came from, however, I couldn't decide. It seemed as though the walls themselves were emitting a sickly, mucus shade of green luminescence. Suddenly, my ears perked. I heard something, faint, besides the drip of the wall. I heard it once more, my ears not possibly working correctly. Could it be? I heard it again, louder this time, and there was no mistaking it—someone, or something, was giggling. It sounded as though it were a young schoolgirl, though I quickly dismissed that idea. If it truly were a young girl, wouldn't she call for help, or have heard my pleas? For a time, it was silent, which made me jump all the more when I heard it again, closer this time. The laughing had taken a wicked edge, and seemed not to break. Hairs on my neck, arms, and legs prickled in fear. 'I must be going mad,' I thought, rubbing my eyelids. I refused to look around the cave for fear I was wrong. 'Perhaps I'm dream—' "I seeeeeee yyoouuuu…" My blood thickened and I froze. A little girl's voice, out of nowhere…and even more, seemingly next to me? My stomach clenched and held in a steely, viselike grip. Perspiration gathered in my armpits, neck, and face. My breathing became shallow. "I seeeeeeee you…can you heaaaarrr me, Jadranko? I see youuuu!" Jadranko. My old name. The one no one knew. I balled my hands into fists. 'This isn't happening,' I thought. 'It can't—WHAM! Something hit my face, hard, and I heard the sickening crack, the telltale sound of bones breaking. Through the initial shock, pain began to spider-web across my face. "Oh god…" I moaned, realizing there was blood flowing down my face, far too much and far too fast. I began to spin. Before it was total blackness, I saw a pair of ghostly white feet in front of me, and heard the same girlish laugh as a bloody hammer fell to the floor.
This is a little short story type thing called "The Cave" that I wrote during freshman year. It just came to my head and I just wrote it down. I dunno, it's the first mystery-suspense thing I've written that I like, and I DO NOT PLAN ON EXPANDING IT...I can't I fail at writing suspense xD
